I've always had a big appetite for both food and books. Days spent in libraries and nights spent in dimly lit, sexy restaurants. It felt damn good. I was about to graduate from college and suddenly realized that I needed to keep going to classes during the days but we were in a massive recession. What could I do?! Anxiety set in and in a big way. That's when I walked into a yoga studio, took a deep breath, and proceeded to have my mind and body challenged in the most invigorating way possible.
Since that day in 2009 I've been in love with yoga and the seemingly endless amount there is to learn about making the human mind and body feel awesome. Plus 4,000 years of History to learn too. Pure heaven.
It was this deep love for yoga that quickly led me to learn about Ayurveda. I fell in love and have been captivated by this "lifestyle medicine" of yoga ever since. Ayurveda is an ancient art of living in harmony with natural rhythms. And a big part of it is about better living through food. It's like hedonism's B-sides. Could anything in the world be better?! History, yoga, food, feeling better with each day, and a deeper connection to other human beings. Simply glorious!
As a yoga teacher, my mission is to teach yoga techniques that encourage my students to attain a healthy body that is in sync with mind and soul. I teach a flowing style of yoga that incorporates breathing with movements and my classes are designed to compliment the current season and honor the unique needs of each individual.
David Swenson says that you know when you're a yoga teacher when your students ask you to teach them. That first happened in Kansas City while I was earning my Ashtanga teaching certificate in 2010. My teachers Kathleen Kastner and Wade Mortensen set me up to teach Ashtanga to awesome students! In 2012, I completed my RYT-200 hour training through the Colorado School of Yoga under the guidance of Gina Caputo and Sarah Kucera. It is here that I learned how to better communicate the energetics of a yoga practice. In 2019 I completed my 750 hour Ayurvedic Health Counselor training and have been serving my community with both yoga and Ayurvedic practices ever since. I'd love to hear about you too!
